What the scanner checks

The scanner identifies your business sector, then checks your website against every regulation that applies. That includes:

Privacy policy (UK GDPR Articles 13–14)

We check for 14 required clauses: controller identity, purposes of processing, legal basis, recipients, retention periods, individual rights, right to complain to the ICO, international transfers, and more. A privacy policy that’s missing any of these is non-compliant — and most are missing at least three.

Cookie consent (PECR & Data Use and Access Act 2025)

We check whether your site has a cookie consent mechanism, whether the reject button is equally as prominent as accept, whether analytics cookies fire before consent, and whether your cookie policy actually lists the cookies your site uses. The Data Use and Access Act 2025 changed how cookie consent works in the UK — we check against the current rules.

Terms and conditions (Consumer Rights Act 2015)

We check for the presence of T&Cs, cancellation rights, complaints procedure, and liability limitations. If you sell goods or services online, the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 add additional requirements around distance selling that we also check.

Accessibility statement (Equality Act 2010)

We check for the presence of an accessibility statement, a WCAG 2.1 Level AA commitment, and contact information for reporting accessibility issues.

Company information (Companies Act 2006 & E-Commerce Regulations 2002)

If your business is a limited company, we check for your company registration number, registered office address, place of registration, and VAT number. These are legal requirements that many businesses overlook.

Sector-specific regulations

Depending on your sector, we also check for:

The scanner currently covers 20+ sector packs including legal, financial, healthcare, automotive, construction, accountancy, education, hospitality, health and beauty, IT, veterinary, nurseries, and more.

How it works

The process takes three steps and about 5 minutes from start to finish:

  1. Enter your website URL and email address at compliancefix.co.uk/scan. That’s all we need.
  2. We scan your site against 6+ regulations. We identify your sector, detect the third-party tools you use (Google Analytics, Stripe, Mailchimp, etc.), and check every compliance requirement that applies. This takes about 2 minutes.
  3. Your report arrives by email within 5 minutes. It shows your overall compliance score, every requirement that’s met, every gap that needs fixing, and the specific legislation behind each check. You can verify every finding against your own website.

No payment required. The report is completely free. If you want us to fix the issues for you, the report includes a link to order a tailored compliance pack from £49 — but there’s absolutely no obligation. Many people use the report as a DIY checklist.

What the report looks like

The report breaks down your compliance across every applicable regulation. For each check, you see whether you pass or fail, what’s required, what was found on your site, and a reference to the specific legislation. Issues are ranked by severity — critical issues that could attract ICO enforcement are highlighted first.

Your overall score is calculated from the number of checks passed versus failed, weighted by severity. A typical UK small business website scores between 30% and 60% on their first scan.

Why we made it free

Most UK small business owners know they’re supposed to comply with GDPR but have no idea whether they actually do. Compliance consultants charge hundreds of pounds just for an audit. Free template generators don’t tell you what’s actually wrong with your current setup.

The free scanner fills that gap. You find out exactly where you stand in 5 minutes, at no cost. If the issues are straightforward, you can fix them yourself using the report as a checklist and the ICO’s own guidance (which we link in the report). If you’d rather have us handle it, we deliver a complete compliance pack — privacy policy, terms and conditions, cookie policy, and accessibility statement — tailored to your sector, for a one-off £49.

Who is it for?

Any UK business with a website. We’ve built sector-specific checks for garages, salons, solicitors, accountants, plumbers, electricians, builders, healthcare providers, financial advisers, schools, nurseries, restaurants, hotels, and more. Whether you’re a sole trader with a one-page brochure site or a limited company with an e-commerce platform, the scanner adapts to your business.

Frequently asked questions

Is the compliance scan really free?

Yes. Enter your URL and email address, and you’ll receive a full compliance report within 5 minutes. No payment details required. No signup. No trial that expires. The report is yours to keep.

What does the scanner check?

UK GDPR (14 privacy policy clauses), PECR (cookies and e-marketing), the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (terms and conditions), Equality Act 2010 (accessibility), Companies Act 2006 (company information), E-Commerce Regulations 2002, and sector-specific regulations including FCA, SRA, CQC, DVSA, and Gas Safe where applicable.

How long does the scan take?

The scan itself takes about 2 minutes. Your report is emailed within 5 minutes of submitting your URL.

What do I get in the report?

A detailed compliance report showing your overall score, every regulation that applies to your business, which requirements you meet, which are missing, and specific recommendations for each gap — with references to the relevant legislation.

Do I have to buy anything after the scan?

No. The report is useful on its own as a compliance checklist. If you want us to fix the issues, the report includes a link to order a tailored compliance pack from £49 — but there’s no obligation and no sales follow-up.

What if my score is really low?

Most UK small business websites score between 30% and 60%. A low score doesn’t mean you’re about to be fined — it means there are gaps that should be addressed. The report tells you exactly what to fix and what to prioritise.
